PEOPLE SHE MET

"People She Met" is the main focus of She Spoke of Bikes in Birmingham.
It will be a collection of short interviews based on the cyclists I meet in my everyday life in Birmingham.
I hope that this will be a diverse presentation of cyclists, their bicycles, their reasons for using a bicycle as transportation, and their views about cycling in the City of Birmingham

SIMON'S STORY

Simon on his Giant Harley Davidson  Stiletto Low Rider
Tell Me about your bike and where you got it.
This bike is from America.  Its a Harley Davidson Chopper.   I have two and I got this one from +Bike Pro in Kings Heath.

Where has your bike taken you today?
It has taken me from the City Centre and I just off to work in Druids Heath

Why do you cycle?
I have a car and I can drive, but cycling keeps me fit, keeps my stomach & legs really toned.

What is your more regular commute around Birmingham & the West Midlands?
I go to West Bromwich, Quinton, and a lot of places all around Birmingham.   I use the main roads to ride along.  I don't use the canal paths.

Where is you favorite place cycle around Birmingham & the West Midlands?
Well I work a lot as a carpenter, so most of my riding is done to get me to and from work.  But I like down hill riding.  I really like riding down Cartland Road,  It's beautiful going down that hill.   I can pick up about 50 mph speed on this bike, so it's great.

What else do you like to do on your bike?
Have you heard me singing?  Well I like to sing when I'm on my bike.  I'm always singing when I'm riding.

What do you think Birmingham could do to improve the cycling infrastructure to make it more user friendly to all cyclists?
The roads are full of bumps and pot holes, so they need to fix up the roads.   When you are riding along, motorists push you aside and you can't help dropping your wheels in to pot holes and that really ruins my wheels.  Some parts of the Alcester Road are very bad in places. I have damaged my wheels a couple of times.  I can fix the damage myself, but I don't have the time.
